Busia Real Estate Market

The urban population is rapidly growing in Busia County, so there is a need for low-cost houses. There are many opportunities in real estate development including residential and housing estates, mortgage facilities, office complexes, and more. Bridging the gap between human resources to achieve affordable housing for all is the way to go.

While campaigning in Busia, Raila Odinga promised the residents of the county that he will negotiate with President of Uganda Yoweri Museveni to open the Kenya-Uganda border after which container terminals will be built in Malaba hence preventing trade commodities being exported to Congo from delaying the border for long.

This will facilitate a continuous supply of goods thus boosting trade. Besides those dealing with perishable goods will evade losses. If implemented, the economy of Busia County is projected to experience tremendous growth which will in turn spur the real estate market in Busia. With almost the same idea, DP Ruto has promised Busia residents modernization of the Busia border point to make it the region’s business gateway.

Ruto who has led the Kenya Kwanza in a series of campaigns in Busia County said the alliance values the contribution that informal cross-border traders play in supporting livelihoods and driving the country’s economy.

Some of the shopping centres that have come up due to the road improvement include Amerikawi, Angorom, Alupe, Amaase and Machakusi.

A leisure tour by the writer revealed that some of these centres have also introduced petrol pumps, Agro vets, small open-air markets and modern private health clinics. The real estate market and development have tremendously grown along the busy road.

Construction Sector in Busia

There have been a number of construction activities in Busia County in the recent past. But lately in April, The National Government and the Busia County Government embarked on a Programme to ease congestion by expanding bed capacity at the Busia County Referral Hospital (BCRH).

A Sh100 million Medical Male Surgical Ward will be built at BCRH, strengthening provision of quality health services to the area residents. The County Chief Officer for Health and Sanitation Jonathan Ino acknowledged that there was acute shortage of beds in local public hospitals, such as BCRH, which initially had only 60 beds in the male surgical ward.

The expected additional 48 more beds will be a big boost to county health sector. There will be enough space to accommodate patients who require surgery. Being an Azimio la Umoja stronghold, the coalition party has promised completion of the project if elected into government.
