The county has a good road network. However, improvements can be made in the condition of these roads since many become impassable during that time period. The terrain poses a great challenge for road maintenance, but with recent improvements on Thika-Nairobi Highway as an example, this will soon change.

The county also has 131 km of railway line, and four railway stations in Ruiru, Thika, Kikuyu, and Limuru towns. The rail is not fully utilized in the county; only passenger trains operate on a daily basis between the City of Nairobi and the four stations on a limited schedule. However, there is great potential for this sector and efforts must be put in place to ensure that the infrastructure is improved so that introduction of modern efficient trains can take place.
