Baringo County is situated in the Rift Valley Region and shares borders with 8 counties: West Pokot to the North West, Turkana to the North, Samburu to the North East, Laikipia to the East, Nakuru to the South, Kericho and Uasin-Gishu Counties to the South West and Elgeyo Marakwet to the West. The main ethnic communities inhabiting Baringo County are the Tugen Sub-County (Tugen) with minority groups such as Endorois, Nubians, Ogiek (Kunuk), Kikuyu, and Turkana. Kabarnet Town
At an altitude of 1,815 meters (5,957 feet) Kabarnet is located on the eastern edge of the Kerio Valley, it is approximately 138km north of Nakuru town on the Nakuru-Marigat-Kabarnet road and 89km east of Eldoret on the Eldoret-Iten-Kabarnet road. The view of Tugen Hills is spectacular along the road heading west from Marigat. Views include east over the Rift Valley towards Lake Baringo and Lake Bogoria, and west to the Elgeyo escarpment and the Kerio Valley. The Kabarnet area is home to the Samors, a sub-group of the Tugen community. The location is named after a missionary from Australia, Albert Edmund Barnett, who was a member of the Africa Inland Mission and came first to central Kenya in 1908.

Baringo County is sparsely populated and constitutes traditional settlements in most areas. However, there are few estates in the county some of which include:

The county’s major farming activities in include dairy farming, growing of maize, groundnuts, cotton and coffee. In the northern part, it is about 300 but occasionally rises to over 350 Celsius. The hottest months are January through March. The mean annual minimum temperature varies from 160 to 180 Celsius but can drop to as low as 100 Celsius in Tugen Hills region.
The hot climatic conditions has discouraged settlement in the region no wonder the very low population density. There is low demand for housing that has led to slow growth of real estate market in Baringo. Most people live in rural settlements and their primary source of income is from agricultural activities. Roads in Baringo
Baringo Governor Stanley Kiptis has launched road construction equipment worth over Sh400 million to facilitate the upgrade of roads in Baringo South and Mogotio Sub-Counties. Speaking during the launch at Marigat town, in Baringo South Sub-County, Kiptis said that his government spent over Sh400 million to procure the equipment—which included a Dozer, two Excavators, a Motor Grader, a roller, and a Toyota Hilux double cab—hence boosting development. Kiptis said that the county was able to kick start projects that were in the pipeline after the purchase of the road equipment unlike when his government-owned lesser machinery. According to Kiptis, if reelected, he will ensure the completion of major roads that are under construction.
